Far North Queensland Regional Swimming Association

Far North Queensland Regional Swimming Association (FNQRSA) incorporates 19 swimming clubs in Cairns, north to Weipa, west to Normanton, south to Tully and the Atherton Tablelands.

FNQ Swimming provides support in many areas including membership drives, development clinics, and hosting swim events. FNQRSA, together with Swimming Queensland, has also developed pathways for swimmers to reach their goals at a regional, state and national level.

2024/25 FNQRSA Regional Report

Regional Events

Our regional Short Course Championships were held 27^th and 28^th July 2024 and attracted 237 swimmers resulting in just over 1700 entries. The Long Course Championships held 1^st and 2^nd March 2025 and attracted 278 athletes and 1800 entries in events and relays.

Strategic Direction

FNQRSA Committee continue to focus on the strategic direction for swimming in the region together with the sustainability of the organisation to lead this activity. The focus for this season was the delivery of Development Clinics in partnership with Swimming Queensland.

Technical Officials

We are fortunate to have a talented and dedicated team of Technical Officials led by Kathy Hare. This year we continued our focus to grow and further development the team and attract new officials from across the region.

Development

The development clinics held throughout the season were well attended by swimmers. A total of five (5) clinics were held for the Age Development Squad, National Squad and State Squad. These include:

September 2024: Movement Improvement Physio Clinic
November 2024: Biomechanics and Swimming with Ryan Hodierne, Senior Movement Specialist, QLD Academy of Sport
January 2025: National Team Camp held in South-East Queensland over 22^nd to 26^th January
January 2025: Regional Development Clinic with Olympic Gold Medallist Chelsea Hodges
March 2025: National Development Clinic aimed for all swimmers attending Nationals.

Management Committee

Committees consist of volunteers who dedicate time and energy and a strong commitment to ensure that things just don’t happen but happen seamlessly and well. We are very fortunate to have such a strong committee within our region.

Governance & Policies

Our History

FNQ Swimming goes back to 1961 at which time Sir Thomas Covacevich became the first President. Since then the Region has grown to 18 clubs and spans an area in Queensland from Tully in the South, to Weipa and Cooktown in the North.

Our clubs collectively have a membership of around 1300 swimmers ranging from Learn-to-Swim through ‘B’ Grade (Novice) kids and on to the more competitive ‘A’ Grade swimmers.

During the past years, our organization has embarked on a challenging review of its systems and activities and is currently using electronic nominations for Carnival program formats within its swimming calendar. We also have an active Achiever’s and Target Squad program that provides the first step on the squad ladder, complimenting the Queensland Region’s Development Squad.

The website is now a reality for us and has been organised to co-inside with the creation of websites for the other clubs in our Region. Also of note is the determined commitments by member clubs to standardise swim meet programs (with Meet Manager and Team Manager), and the collating, processing and distribution of results and records, which are now available through this site.

FNQ Regional Swimming is a progressive and innovative group of enthusiastic Clubs determined to work through its parent organization, Queensland Swimming, with an eye always on improving the lot of it’s swimming members!
